Modern Horsepower

World's First M156 63 AMG & M159 SLS AMG Billet Camshafts

Modern Horsepower (MHP) is proud to announce the release of our M156 & M159 billet camshafts and matching software  for naturally aspirated, nitrous, and forced induction applications.

Combined with custom MHP v3 (pump gas) or v4 (race gas) CDT (ECU Tuning) our billet sticks gained an astonishing 42rwhp & 17rwtq gains naturally aspirated, translated into flywheel numbers that's an additional 52HP & 21lb/ft at the crankshaft

Dyno Tuning in humid Orlando, FL on 2/10-2/11/12 Dads C63 (Keith Brantley) made an astounding 525rwhp & 470rwtq N/A or 656HP & 588lb/ft  at the crankThat equates to gains of 205HP & 145lb/ft over stock without the aid of forced induction or nitrous with his MHP S4 Package.

On a 125 shot of nitrous the numbers jumped to an incredible  634rwhp & 669rwtq or 793HP & 836lb/ft at the crank, potentially more impressive was the gain over previous stock cam 160 shot numbers of 622rwhp and 602rwtq or 778HP and 753lb/ft; netting an additional 15HP & 83lb/ft despite using 35HP less nitrous with our billet cams and revised camshaft tuning

On a 200 shot (as seen in the video linked below) Keith's MHP S4 C63 looked like it was going to explode off the dyno.  Final numbers ended up being 684rwhp & 723rwtq or 831HP & 881lb/ft at the crank, garnering MHP the World's most Powerful M156 63 AMG title in both N/A and Power Adder trim.

The success of MHP's billet camshafts only serves to further the existing gap between our N/A competitors.  Track and VBox results will be posted in the next 7-10 days and we are presently taking orders for both naturally aspirated and supercharger camshafts as well as matching v3 and v4 CDT ECU tuning.  Please call direct at 614.940.9523 or email sales@modernhorsepower.com for more information or to place your order.

MHP Revised Software (v3 & v4 CDTR) Proves Superior to TechTec On-Track & On the Dyno

Thanks to our revised software the last 14 days have been eventful and eye opening for the M156 performance aftermarket.  Having recently re-broken several of MHP’s standing records at the strip proving our revised remapping "v3 & v4 CDTR" vs our former software provider Techtec, including the World's Quickest & Fastest N/A Mercedes Benz/AMG, Dodger63 (v4 CDT) thus displaying our continuing on-track superiority.

One of many Back-up Passes on Video:

On 12/17/11 in Columbus, OH
we commenced with Stage 2 in further distinguishing our own revised software by displaying dyno proven gains via live dyno tuning over our former software partner TechTec.  AMGFTW/Kent Leach, Petro63/Mike Petrosino and crew were on hand to witness the evolution of their C63’s tuning from a good/very good file to a hands down, best on market custom remap.  These files will comprise our new base files going forward so every MHP customer will benefit from the changes and findings made (an improvement in power and torque vs the beta remaps that proved superior at the track) on the dyno, as well as the significantly lower cost of all of our software and consequently packages S1-S5.  A DynoJet 248 (Inertia Based meaning no load and lower numbers than an eddy current based DJ with typical 20-30% load) was used to baseline the old Techtec tuning vs MHP's new remapping.  As you can see the fan setup was far from sufficient for N/A tuning as such we have no doubt that actual real world output is a solid 10-20rwhp higher.  Ok enough speculation, on with the facts:

1)  First up PetroC63 in his 2010 MHP S2 CMR C63, equipped with MHP v3 CDTR, MHP 1 7/8" SS LT Headers with 3" Mids, MHP 180F Thermosat, MHP Thermal Gaskets, and a RENNtech CF airboxes on 93 octane.

The baseline pull (TechTec), although still quite easy to see how much lower the curves are, was erratic as far as logging due to inducive clip not being properly secured to the ignition wire.  Final gains at peak are 17rwhp/20rwtq with gains of 30rwtq from 2500-3250rpm post MHP retuning:

TechTec Baseline:  465rwhp/422rwtq

Revised MHP v3 CDT:  482rwhp/442rwtq

In this graph of Petro's C63 you can see the evolution of a custom dyno tuned v3 CDTR remap compared to a TechTec baseline.   We took the time to swap back to stock airboxes to test and found the RENNtech airboxes netted higher peak numbers while shifting the curve to the right.  It required some additional map changes vs AMGFTW’s C63 (identical less the RT Airbox) however in the end it was worth it as the numbers speak for themselves:

2)  Next up current World Record Holder Mike Conforti’s 2009 S2.5 CMR C63 featuring MHP v4 CDT (dedicated race gas tuning), MHP 1 7/8” LT Headers and 3” Mids, MHP 3” Race Catback with X-pipe, MHP 180F Thermostat, MHP Thermal Gaskets, and Carbonio Airboxes on 100 octane unleaded race fuel.

TechTec Baseline:  480rwhp/444rwtq

Revised MHP v3 CDT:  504rwhp/460rwtq

Gains of 24rwhp/17rwtq

Please note there was zero detonation detected while logging post MHP tuning.

3)  Last up Kent Leach aka AMGFTW in his 2009 MHP S2CM C63 featuring MHP v3 CDT, MHP 1 7/8” LT Headers and 3” MIds, MHP 180F Thermostat, MHP Thermal Gaskets, and K&N drop-in airfilters on 93 octane.  Current ¼ mile PB:  11.38@126.1, Edgewater.

Techtec Baseline:  454rwhp/422rwtq

Revised MHP v3 CDT:  468rwhp/442rwtq

Gains of 14rwhp/20rwtq

Video on the Dyno:

As you can see from a previous MHP pull vs the Techtec baseline detonation was eliminated at multiple data points during the dyno tuning session:

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r206/Fourcam330/DSC00030.jpg

After a successful day on the dyno some road testing and subjective feedback was definitely in order:

Kent was first to note that his car no longer threw a MAF or 02 related CEL, that his part throttle hesitation was gone and that his car was noticeably smoother and faster with improved/faster shifts at WOT.

I had the  pleasure of driving Dodger’s beast from the shop to the dyno and back dyno (around 20 miles each way most of which is highway).   Improvements in the tuning came not just in the form of power and torque gains.  Map changes were made to eliminate an unnecessarily choppy cold air idle, the WOT 3-4 shift in auto (the only one that wouldn’t spin the tires 100% of the time) felt like a crisp Manual mode shift, tables that were previously untouched or entered incorrectly were fixed.  In fact Mike’s car tore up our own project E55 (MHP S1: 182mm pulley, ECU/TCU, HE, TSTAT, IC Pump) with 520rwhp/620rwtq from a 65-125 roll by 4-6 cars.   The pull was linear and fierce to say the least and will no doubt result in lower ETs and higher trap speeds than his previous record run(s).

Mike Petrosino checked in a few hours into his 11hr one way trip to pass on that he had taken the car off the trailer and had identical feedback as Kent and I regarding the improvement in software: strong, smooth with unquestionable gains and superior drivability at part throttle.

In the next few weeks MHP racers from around the world will perform additonal track testing and VBox data logging, as we not only further differentiate ourselves from our former software partner, but more importantly to display the superiority and potency of our new software.  While we believe dynos are one of the many useful measuring sticks of performance, as always we recognize track and VBox testing to be superior barometers of N/A performance due to real world airflow and load.

A huge Thank You to all those involved for the time and effort expended, I think I speak for everyone when I say the results were well worth it.  MHP will begin custom dyno tuning (actual, legitimate custom dyno tuning) on M156/M159 and M157 equipped AMG models in January 2012, please contact us by emailing sales@modernhorsepower.com or calling direct at 614.940.9523 to inquire about our custom European dyno tuning services.

MIR 12/9/11, Another MB/AMG World Record!

Mike Conforti aka Dodger63 does it again with revised MHP v4 CDT, breaking his own standing World Record for 1/8th and 1/4 mile performance, shattering his old numbers by running a 10.66@130.73 and again going quicker and faster than any other naturally aspirated Mercedes Benz in history.  Even with a catapult like 1.58 60', Mike still managed to run 6.87@103.25 in the 1/8th mile with stock heads and cams.

Slips Below...The 1st image displays 5 consecutive hotlap slips to show the amazing consistency and prove these runs are not one time anomalys.  Mike/Dodger63 has made over One Hundred (100!) 10 second @ 130mph+ 1/4 mile passes at three different tracks in the past 12 months alone in DA ranging from -1000' to +1380'.

Video of a 10.67@129 back-up pass also below.

ATCO 12/5/11 New Records with New MHP Software!

A huge congratulations to Mike Conforti aka Dodger63 and Mike Petrosino aka Petro63 for breaking both their own and overall respective records.

Mike/Dodger ran an incredible 10.77@130.37 backed up by a 10.78@130.80 with no skinnies (as were used last time) naturally aspirated with MHP's new revised v4 CDT.  1/8th splits were 6.95@101.33 and 6.96@101.45 respectively.   Thus re-claiming his Overall AMG N/A Record with a heavier car and new tuning.

Mike/Petro stepped up and ran an astounding 11.29@124.71 N/A with revised MHP v3 CDT, MHP LTs/Mids, and CF Airboxes with 18" DRs on 93 octane.

Congratulations to both racers!!!

MHP's goal for today was to re-take our present records utilizing our new software, and thanks to our customers time, effort and hardwork, we did just that.   Thank You!

MHP Revised v3 CDT

91 Octane v3 CDT for 63 M156 AMG:  450rwhp/398rwtq SAE on 91 Octane (Dyno Jet)

Our previous best tune only numbers were 435rwhp/402rwtq SAE on 93 Octane (Dyno Jet) when partnered with Techtec.  As you can see by the graph, and soon updated and improved track results, we are making signficantly more power and torque across the board even utilizing the stock timing curve.

Keith Brantley's Red Brown Arrow Tackles Daytona Ferrari Event

In attendance with over 50 modern Ferrari's, a tuned Audi R8 V10, and a tuned and test pipe equipped '08 Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera the Red Brown Arrow did more than hold it's own, laying down scorching 2.04 and 2.05 laps on Toyo R888s!   Unfortunately the Hoosier slicks were worn out after day one when Keith was still learning the track, otherwise 2.00-2.02 laps may very well have been a reality, this in his first ever trip to Daytona.

The RBA was not passed by a single car, not one, at the entire event and as the in-car footage continues to come in we will likewise update the links to videos of Keith's MHP Stage 3 Widebody C63 AMG  on-track in Florida.
